Music therapy

I’ve been having a hard time figuring out how to put my words down lately. I decided to share my go to songs that make the world not so scary.

The first song is from the musical Dear Evan Hanson. It’s called You Will Be Found.

“Even when the dark comes crashing through
When you need a friend to carry you
When you’re broken on the ground
You will be found

So let the sun come streaming in
‘Cause you’ll reach up and you’ll rise again
If you only look around
You will be found (You will be found)
You will be found (You will be found)
You will be found

Out of the shadows
The morning is breaking
And all is new, all is new
It’s filling up the empty
And suddenly I see that
All is new, all is new
You are not alone
You are not alone
You are not alone
You are not alone
You are not alone (You are not alone)
You are not alone (You are not alone)
You are not
You are not alone (You are not alone)

Even when the dark comes crashin’ through
When you need someone to carry you
When you’re broken on the ground

You will be found!”

That’s not the full song but the lyrics are so important. I play it over and over to get it through to my brain. It helps, sometimes.

The next song I go to for hope is If Today Was Your Last Day by Nickelback. Go ahead and make fun of the band, but this song man. The lyrics get through the dark parts of my brain and I play it way too many times in a row.

“My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day’s a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day
(If today was your last day)

Against the grain should be a way of life
What’s worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts ’cause there’s no second try
So live like you’ll never live it twice
Don’t take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you’re dreamin’ of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it’s never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
Cause you can’t rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin’ stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you’re dreamin’ of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day”

I have my moments where I play the songs that break my heart. To get the overwhelming emotions out and cry. It isn’t something I’d recommend all the time. Try and find your songs that keep you going. There are dark days but there is always something to help pull you into the light. This is one of my coping skills I’ve done for years without knowing it was a coping skill. There are some songs that save your life. Find them and play them on repeat.
